Questions researchers ask before using Serif
How do I bring an existing paper?
Import the project folder or ZIP, not just its PDF. Include the source, bibliography, figures, and custom styles, and keep their relative paths intact. Then check the main file and compiler before your first build.
Which document format should I choose?
Use LaTeX for a paper with an existing journal or conference template, Markdown for straightforward writing, or Typst for a Typst project. Choose the type when creating your document. The template library currently covers LaTeX.
How do I review what Copilot changed?
Check the edits in the source and the result in the preview. Open History to inspect recorded changes and restore an earlier version. Keep reviewing before submission: a successful build does not mean the content is correct.
Can I trust a citation Copilot finds?
Treat it as a source to verify, not a finished fact-check. Open the original paper, check its authors and publication details, and make sure it supports the specific claim. Copilot can help find and organize references; you remain the reviewer.
How do I work with a coauthor?
Use the document’s sharing controls to invite your coauthor and choose their access. They sign in to work on the shared document. Review who has access before sharing; a downloaded PDF is better when someone only needs the finished paper.
Can I keep working outside Serif?
Yes. Export a LaTeX or Typst project as a ZIP with its source files, or download the compiled PDF. For Markdown, use Paper view to print or save a PDF, and keep the Markdown source for editing elsewhere.
